A Montana cattle ranching family comes face to face with others who are encroaching on their land. Forrie J. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget” his Montana accent and revert to the SoCal voice he usually uses.
I watched the first episode of the first season last night, it’s almost 90 minutes long

As for the Dutton family, we see that they have a powerful influence in their valley, but they fend off the “attacks.” One from developers who want to put up apartments. Another from a neighboring Indian reservation who wants to reclaim some of their land and some of their cattle.
To cope with all of this, and the vast size of his ranch, Dutton (played by a real-life 60-year-old Kevin Costner) has a couple of grown cowboy sons and a helicopter with a dedicated pilot
The reason I watched the first episode of the first season (on the streaming service Peacock) was to get a sense of the Dutton family, because I’m currently watching ten episodes of Taylor Sheridan’s newer show “1883,” which is a prequel of sorts. It was (fictionally) 1883, when the Dutton family from Tennessee joined a larger group to drive a wagon train from Fort Worth, Texas, to “somewhere out West.” They had to stop when they got to Montana. Again, this is all fiction, but given the ages of the men and the fact that Costner was born in 1955, his character would likely be the great-grandson of the Dutton patriarch (played by Tim McGraw) in “1883.” E.g.
with sons born around 1875, 1900, 1925 and in the 50s
Yellowstone is a really good show, the acting is top notch, the cinematography and sound are excellent. It’s just not the kind of show I could get into and keep watching. It’s hard to find redeeming characters and I really don’t like long-running shows that constantly focus on bickering and fighting and often killing.

Now in my 70s, I prefer to spend my time watching “feel good” stories. NB – 1883 is a really good and interesting show in the way it authentically portrays the great difficulties of uprooting and traveling through unfamiliar territory to try to find a new life in a new place. The new season of Silo is one of the biggest TV and streaming releases this month.
